Northgate College

Completed 2017

Overview

In 2010, North Lake College decided it was time to get a handle on managing the irrigation at their main campus, encompassing 276 acres, as well as two satellite campuses of 5 and 7 acres respectively. The team wanted to gain a clearer picture of how they were using water and then introduce the ability to influence the irrigation system’s schedule with weather data. After installing the Calsense resource management system, North Lake was able to see where, when and how much water was being applied, which enabled them to pinpoint issues that that their contractor could then fix in a timely manner.

The challenge

  • No control over irrigation at the central campus or satellite campuses, with a contractor managing the irrigation system
  • Three levels of communications made managing irrigation issues difficult and slow, with fixes not completed for 4-7 days
  • Water theft was occurring
  • Standing water and field conditions were a concern
