Smart Solutions
Irrigation Management as a Service

Irrigation Management as a Service™

We’re now offering our solutions as a service, to provide customers with a turnkey approach to smart irrigation management. These solutions can include components provided by Calsense, our contractors and/or your team, depending on budgets, current and anticipated staffing levels and where your organization’s priorities need to be.

While cities, school districts, university systems and others have used capital budgets to purchase equipment and related services for decades, the arrival of ‘as a service’ is changing procurement methods for many; and rightly so. To align with this growing trend, we at Calsense have launched Calsense® Irrigation Management as a Service™, which features the following benefits:

  • Inclusive of all needed hardware, software and services
  • No capital spending; it’s a service! Savings in water and labor help pay for the system
  • Proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, problem resolution and reporting
  • Annual subscription stays constant for 10 years; there are no surprises
  • Any and all technology risk lies with Calsense
  • Enables faster, more holistic technology rollouts; scales easily to support expansions, upgrades, etc.

The intent with Calsense Irrigation Management as a Service is to provide our customers with a turnkey solution, however “turnkey” can include components provided by Calsense and our contractors and/or components provided by your team, depending on current and anticipated staffing levels and where your organization’s priorities need to be. To that end, our technical sales representative will perform a site survey and propose a specific solution. The scope of work will be fully discussed, vetted and then documented as a part of the master services agreement (MSA), including the specifics of the solution and how it will be deployed.

Once the details have been agreed upon, we will assign a project manager, who will develop and manage the implementation team’s activities, whether in-house, outsourced, or via your staff.

Your team and Calsense

Although Calsense takes full responsibility for the operation of the system, your team can remain as involved as you want it to be. Our intent is to work in collaboration with our Irrigation Management as a Service customers, complementing the services provided by their internal staffs.

Without an optimized smart irrigation management solution, your organization may be spending more on water and labor than is necessary. These are operating expenses that are likely already a part of your existing operating budget, so to the extent they can be reduced, those savings can be applied to the annual subscription price of Calsense Irrigation Management as a Service.

The equipment and our support

As with many technology solutions, proactive monitoring of your smart irrigation management system can lead to better performance throughout its life. With this in mind, proactive monitoring is a part of Calsense Irrigation Management as a Service. When problems occur, the team at Calsense will troubleshoot, deploy the resources needed to resolve the issue and then provide full transparency with regular reporting.

With equipment purchased via traditional means, unexpected expenses can occur throughout the expected life. With Calsense Irrigation Management as a Service, the annual subscription rate is known up-front; and it won’t change for the entire term of the agreement, which is typically ten years. The certainty of the annual subscription amount makes staying within budget much easier than what would otherwise be the case.

Technology and the bottom line

Whether the move from 3G to 4G to 5G, or any other technology consideration, technology evolves over time. Depending on the speed at which this happens, the need to upgrade technologies can wreak havoc on budgeting. With Calsense Irrigation Management as a Service, the risk of technology sunsetting stays with Calsense, since it’s our responsibility to keep your service up and running optimally.

While many technology purchases need to happen in increments because of capital budget constraints, buying as a service in many cases enables organizations to do full rollouts from the beginning. This approach often leads to bigger savings, faster, without the need to spend capital dollars.

Even so, with population growth continuing to happen across the nation, we want to make expansion of your smart irrigation management system as easy as it can be. Expanding to newly landscaped areas is as simple as a short amendment to the master services agreement, which will detail the specifics of the expansion and the subscription price attributed to it.
